It goes backwards, sideways, then nowhere for a bit.

Healing is not a straight line

Healing is not linear has been repeated so often that it has stopped landing. It gets printed on things. It has become a way of saying nothing gently.

What it actually means in practice is less comfortable. It means you can do months of genuine work and then have a Tuesday that feels exactly like the beginning. It means anniversaries you did not consciously remember will take a week off you. It means progress you cannot see from inside it.

The useful reframing in these lines is that the bad days are not a reversal of the good ones. Nothing is being undone. You are not back at the start, you are just having a hard day at a later point, which looks similar from the inside and is not the same thing at all.

The other honest note running through them is that some days are not part of any arc. Some days you are not healing or growing or becoming. You are simply here, and here is allowed to be the whole of it.

There's a version of me that exists only at 3am. She's more honest than the daytime one.

The anxiety is quieter today. Not gone. Just quieter. I'll take it.

Some healing happens in daylight. Some happens at 3am staring at the ceiling. All of it counts.

Today I did one thing. Tomorrow I might do two. That's progress.

Recovery is not a straight line. It's a scribble. And the scribble is valid.

I forgave myself today. Not for anything specific. Just for all of it.

Some days I'm not healing or growing or becoming. Some days I'm just here. And here is fine.

There's a version of me that exists only at 3am. She's honest in a way the daytime one can't be.

I sat on the bathroom floor and let myself feel it all. Then I got up. That's the whole story.

I'm tired of being told to heal quietly. Some healing needs to be loud.

Nobody tells you that healing isn’t linear. Some Tuesdays you’re back at square one and that’s not failure. That’s just Tuesday.

tender

I apologised to my reflection today. For all the years I agreed with the people who hurt me.

Recovery is a scribble rather than a line, and the scribble still counts as moving.
